About Us
Hi! Thank you for stopping by our website! My name is Emily and I currently operate Blue Goose Mercantile from our home in Indiana, online, and through our booth at a local antique mall. My sister, Jess, and I work together to bring our vision to life. We chose to begin this journey with support from our families and close friends to escape the confines of typical jobs, be a more present for our families and our children, and to live a more peaceful & balanced life.
The name, Blue Goose Mercantile, originated from our Grandpa and his blue 1950's farm truck plus his love for hard work, working with his hands, helping others, and a legacy of love for his family.
Our Grandpa was a very tall, broad shouldered, loving, funny, and extremely hard working man. Grandpa graduated from Purdue University and married my Grandmother shortly after. They were active in the farming community around their home and he managed the grain elevator in the small town nearby for many years. I am one of 12 grandchildren and my son is one of 9 great grand children. The legacy our Grandfather left behind, obvious to anyone who knows our family, is one of perseverance, love of family, love of the past, and faith in the betterment of our future through our Christian faith.
Most of the people closest to our family knew that our Grandfather meant business but always went about it in a fun-loving manor. They knew that our Grandpa named in-adamant objects, had funny sayings, and used weird (yet relatable) words/phrases to communicate. Hence how a truck became named "The Blue Goose". All of his kids drove the Goose on the farm, through the fields, and "into town". People knew our Grandfather and his family for this truck.
When discussing the name for our store Jess said "we should name it The Goose". I replied, "The Blue Goose Mercantile!". We chose the word Mercantile because of our love of nostalgic old time General Stores and old timey small-town atmosphere, hard working communities, and the era of antiques we enjoy. So, the name became the right way to honor, not only for our Grandfather, but also every ideal that led us to this point and to show our children as well.
We are currently located in the front room/parlor of our 1900's brick country home, online, and at an antique mall nearby. We sell an assortment of antique furniture & décor curated from around our local area. In addition, we currently sell handmade/handcrafted goods. Our vision from the beginning was to create the feeling of an old time "General Store", in addition to providing unique pieces for our customers- utilizing the talents around us. For example, my brother-in-law, Mark, creates handcrafted cutting boards and charcuterie boards.
We do hope to grow into a space in a local storefront in the next few years so that we can showcase even more local artisans and handcrafters as well as expand our antique inventory. With long term goals to sell bulk candies, dry goods, and organic items.
Thank you so much for stopping by to learn more about us! We look forward to meeting you too!
